Chiropractic Questions and Answers

Here are short answers to the chiropractic questions we hear most often at HealthSource Chiropractic of Roseland. Our owner and treating chiropractor is Dr. Jenna Patel, D.C. We grouped the answers by topic, and most of them link to a page with more detail. If you do not see your question, call us at (973) 200-2424.

Chiropractic questions about your first visit

What happens at the first visit?

First, our team welcomes you and gives you a short tour. Next, you fill out a health history questionnaire. After that, you sit down with Dr. Patel for a consultation about your health and what brings you in. Our first chiropractic visit page walks through every step in order.

Will I need X-rays?

Maybe, but not always. Dr. Patel starts with a physical exam that checks your posture, mobility and pain. She then orders X-rays on site only if clinically needed. So imaging is never an automatic part of the visit.

When does care start?

Only after Dr. Patel explains what she found. First, she gives you a report of findings in plain words. Then she walks you through a personalized care plan and answers your questions. That way, you can decide what comes next at your own pace.

Can I ask chiropractic questions before I book?

Yes. Give us a call during office hours, and our team will help. You can also ask Dr. Patel anything during your consultation. She speaks English, Hindi and Gujarati, so you can talk with her in any of the three.

Chiropractic questions about insurance and cost

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. For example, Zocdoc lists Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare among the plans we accept. Coverage differs from plan to plan, however, so please call to verify yours. Our insurance and financing page has more detail.

Does Medicare cover chiropractic care?

Medicare covers some chiropractic services. Its chiropractic coverage page explains what qualifies. Because benefits vary, call us and we can talk through your options. Also note that our new-patient offer does not apply to Medicare patients.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing through Cherry and CareCredit. In addition, we offer the APEX discount plan and a Wellness Club membership for households. Ask our team about each choice when you call, so you can compare them before your visit.

Is there an offer for new patients?

Yes. Ask about our new-patient visit: consultation, exam and X-rays if clinically needed. The offer is for new patients only. It does not apply to Medicare, Medicaid, other federal healthcare program patients or ACN members. Read the new patient offer page to learn how to claim it.

Chiropractic questions about safety

Is chiropractic care safe for me?

That depends on your health, which is why Dr. Patel checks first. Before any care, she reviews your health history, examines you and orders X-rays only if clinically needed. For an outside look at the research, including safety, see the NCCIH guide to chiropractic. The next answer lists signs that need a medical doctor instead.

Who will treat me?

Dr. Patel, our owner, is the treating chiropractor. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic at Northeast College of Health Sciences and holds a New Jersey license. In addition, she passed the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exams and belongs to the American Chiropractic Association. You can read more about Dr. Patel and her training.

When should I see a medical doctor instead?

Some symptoms need a medical doctor or the ER, not a chiropractor. Call 911 for chest pain, with or without arm pain. Go to the ER for a sudden, severe headache or new trouble with bladder or bowel control. Numbness in the groin or inner thighs and new leg weakness also need the ER right away. After a serious fall or car crash, get urgent medical care first. Remember that this page is educational and is not a diagnosis.

Chiropractic questions about treatment

What does treatment include?

Your care depends on your exam and your goals. Dr. Patel uses hands-on adjustments, soft tissue work, exercise rehab, and nutrition and lifestyle guidance. We also offer Progressive Rehab® and functional exercise, Class IV laser therapy, spinal decompression, sleep optimization and nutritional counseling. Kinesiology taping and orthotic care round out the list. You can compare them all on our chiropractic services page.

What problems do you see?

We see sciatica, back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines. We also see sports, personal, workplace and auto injuries. In addition, people come to us for shoulder and arm pain, carpal tunnel, foot and ankle pain, and hip and knee pain. Dr. Patel also sees bulging discs, neuropathy and arthritis. Browse the conditions we treat to learn more.

Can chiropractic care help my problem?

Chiropractic care may help with back, neck and joint problems like the ones above, but no one can promise a result. That is why Dr. Patel evaluates each case first. She looks for the source of the problem, not only the symptoms. After that, she tells you whether she thinks care is a good fit.

How many visits will I need?

There is no single answer, because every person and problem differs. Your personalized care plan depends on what Dr. Patel finds in your exam. She explains the plan and the reasons behind it, so you never have to guess. We do not want you to feel pushed into a long plan or extras, so take your time to decide.
